How Clinical Somatic Education (CSE) is different than Traditional Therapies

March 15, 2022

Clinical Somatic Education teaches you how to take control of your musculoskeletal health.  Most muscle pain results from the way you use your body every day.  The way you sit, stand walk or even fold your laundry and wash your dishes.

You do all of theses movements automatically, without consciously thinking.  To change the way you walk, run, sit and stand-even when you are not thinking about it-is to actively retrain your nervous system, which is what Clinical Somatic Education does.

Because CSE is an active and  “intentional” learning process, you make more sustainable changes, which results in a decrease in muscular tension and pain. Other therapies like, massage or chiropractic for pain relief are temporary as they are passive. Passive in that you are not actively participating in the process. You lie there and the practitioner does something to you. In a Clinical Somatic session you are intentionally, volutionally, consciously and actively moving.

Taking a series of Clinical Somatic Education (CSE) classes, 1:1 sessions or a workshop is a learning process. Whilst some people may experience changes in their pain and functioning quickly and others longer it’s important to remember that Somatics is subjective. It’s about you, how you sense yourself, your patterns and collective habits that make you unique. Remember, it’s a learning process.

In some cases it may seem as if the results of the practice are immediate. However…as a learning process, and it’s important to commit to and dedicate time to practice the exercises in order to achieve lasting results. The more you practice…the more autonomous and self corrective you become.

Ultimately, my intention is to lead you through the educational process and not only to help you regain muscular control and sensory-motor awareness, but also to teach you how to guide yourself through the educational process without me. Our intention is to education you through the lessons and classes so you will gain the knowledge and understanding necessary to re-calibrate, and release muscular tension on your own.

Move Freely with Somatics!
