The Balanced Body Pilates Instructor Training program is designed to create thoughtful, creative and successful Pilates teachers. Our program offers an assessment-based certificate of completion, based on the recommendations of the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA). Our courses are taught in modular segments and are offered by highly qualified master instructor, Janet Wood. This allows students flexibility and convenience in choosing when, where and how to complete the program.

Anatomy

To be the best Pilates instructor you can be, a solid foundation in Anatomy is required. If you’ve never take anatomy, we offer two courses: A basic anatomy class, or a more in-depth course where you’ll build the muscles in clay. If you’ve taken an anatomy course, you just need to get it approved.

Movement Principles

This course illustrates the bio-mechanics of the human body – how a healthy body moves – and basic exercises. The class provides critical information about why Pilates works and how to use it successfully. Required for all modules.

Mat Pilates

The most basic of our options, the Mat Pilates program requires a student to successfully complete both Mat I and Mat II modules. Anatomy and Movement Principles are pre-requisites, teaching, and observation hours are required to complete the program.

Mat and Reformer

This covers all Reformer work plus the mat work. For successful completion candidates will need to take the following modules: Mat I and Mat II; Reformer I, II, III. Anatomy and Movement Principles are pre-requisites. Teaching and observation hours are also required to complete the program.

Reformer (only)

This covers all Reformer work. For successful completion candidates will need to take the following modules:  Reformer I, II, III. Anatomy and Movement Principles are pre-requisites. Teaching and observation hours are also required to complete the program.

Comprehensive

This is an in-depth exploration of Pilates from mat to barrels and all that lies in between. The comprehensive modules include: Mat I and Mat II; Reformer I, II, III; Tower or Trapeze Table, Chair and Barrels. Anatomy and Movement Principles are pre-requisites. Teaching and observation hours are also required to complete the program.

Bridge Programme

If you have already completed a Pilates training program and are looking to bridge over to our Balanced Body program, we welcome you. Our bridging program requires a bridge application submission and the completion of at least three modules which will be determined based on your application.

Having experienced a lower back injury I found that practising pilates helped me with my recovery and ultimately regain the range of movement I’d lost. During Pilates classes I realised that my technique needed many improvements and it was when having specific corrections that I noticed the major benefits and improvements in flexibility and my own practice.

I was inspired to become a Pilates Teacher to help others and specifically to learn with Janet, owner of MI Studio York. Very simple because Janet’s the best in town! Having researched the various styles of Pilates available, I chose Balanced Body as company to train with it has a very strong international reputation; involving smooth transitions between movements for a constant flow without losing the essence of original moves.

The training is very comprehensive and thorough. Some bodies I understand don’t stipulate the need for required teaching hours to complete the programme for certification, but it’s essential to train and learn whilst teaching for the required hours to develop your own teaching style, confidence and fluidity. There is absolutely no question about the vast knowledge acquired during training via the manuals and well delivered practical sessions and presentations, but also Janet will be on hand throughout the process to give extra advice, input and support long after the training session ends.

There are so many, which makes choosing one aspect extremely difficult, but overall it would be the level of support and encouragement she gives.

Janet willingly shares her vast experience and depth of movement knowledge to support your development – she genuinely wants you to become the best pilates instructor you can possibly be and is totally dedicated to helping you on that journey.

Marina Crowe 2021

Janet is a very inspiring teacher, who is passionate about sharing her knowledge with others. As an experienced Pilates instructor myself, I feel like I always learn a lot from Janet's courses. She shares information beyond what the course provides, and inspires me to keep up with my own professional development.

Janet's teaching approach allows each individual to feel comfortable to learn and grow their skills. I have already recommended her courses to the girls that I work with, and will continue to do so. I can't wait to do more courses with her in the future!

Jane Linden Brown 2021

Janet is an inspirational teacher, with extensive knowledge regarding the body and movement. She has a friendly approach to her teaching and is always considerate towards her students way of learning.

You are guaranteed to learn something new on Janet’s courses, no matter your experience. She is always willing to give professional advice, and goes above and beyond for her students. I have done 4 courses so far with Janet and plan on continuing my Balanced Body training with her.

Highly recommended.

Laura Firth 2021

Janet trained me on both Reformer and Mat Pilates though to my successful qualification with Balanced Body in early 2021, after 18 months.

What stood out for me was the extraordinary level of care and interest Janet shows in her students. Her energy and commitment on our behalf were amazing. Not only covering the required training but also drawing on her vast experience to provide additional valuable insights and tips. She shows real interest in her students and is keen to help in any way she can. I greatly appreciated the commitment she showed.

My mat training was largely completed online due to Covid restrictions, but this did little to diminish Janet’s impact. In fact, she made every effort to ensure that the very best experience was provided to us and her creativity came to the fore.

The cohort I trained with bonded together so well and this sense of togetherness was in no small part down to the tone Janet sets in her classes and the encouragement she gives. The courses under Janet’s tuition were hard work, with lots of required content to cover under the syllabus, but enormously enjoyable. Her knowledge level is extremely high and the quality of teaching reflects this.

James Burdass  2021

Janet taught me Pilates Mat 1-3 during the lockdown of 2020. I learnt so much as a teacher and person with Janet and through the Balanced Body education. Janet was informative, thorough and extremely well knowledged in her teachings of anatomy, Pilates and movement. I am truly grateful that Janet was my teacher and I continue to expand my knowledge and technique in my own journey as a Pilates instructor.
